Degree Overview

Compared to theoretical physics, applied physics is a more hands-on course, bridging the gap between physics and mechanical engineering. Applied physicists use physics, or conduct physics research, to develop new technologies to solve engineering problems. This often requires thinking ‘outside the box’, using skills in physics to understand the problem at hand.

Important
  • Mutual recognition of professional qualifications following Brexit is a priority for UK professional bodies and universities. If you plan on practising outside the UK students should check with the relevant national authority on the recognition of this qualification.

Why Study this Degree

At Dundee, Physics degrees are accredited by the UK Institute of Physics, eligible graduates are then able to apply for chartered physicist (CPhys) professional status.
