Degree Overview

Working in a political or economic or business environment means employing the best strategies to negotiate your way to your objectives. This is why the practical dimension of the degree has a focus on actual negotiation skills (the second-year module ‘Political Skills: Negotiation,’ teaching for example the Harvard Negotiation Method) and leadership and communication skills. Allied to this PPE at Roehampton is designed to produce effective decision-makers out in the world informed by: the best ways of negotiating through political and business systems, ethical and philosophical principles regarding the good of humankind and economic choices regarding the best uses of increasingly scarce resources.

Our Politics modules focus on: Political Concepts, Researching and Working on Politics, Political Parties and Elections, Global Governance (how for example the UN works), Active Citizenship.

Our Philosophy modules focus on: Ethical Theory, Freedom, Power and Politics, Self and World, Animal rights and Environmental Ethics. Political Philosophy, Gender and Philosophy, continental Philosophy.

Our economics modules provide in-depth knowledge of organisations and their environments, including their relationships to society.
