Degree Overview

Underpinned by the Global Definition of Social Work, this academic course will enable you to develop a critical understanding of social work practice, policy, research and leadership.

The course considers and connects global and local social concerns, developments and research. It is intended for you if you have had experience working within social services. This includes work with children and families, adults and communities in government and non-government sectors, including voluntary work.

Successful completion of the course confers a Master’s degree. The course is designed to support employability and further professional development for those who wish to work in Scotland or continue to do so, as well as those who may wish to work overseas within the social services workforce.

This one-year course does not contain integrated practice learning opportunities or internships and completion of the course does not confer a professional qualification.

  • You may incur additional costs in the course of your education at the University over and above tuition fees in an academic year such as laptops, Stationary and additional resources.
  • This course does not confer a professional qualification. The course does not allow those who complete it to register or practice as a social worker in Scotland or the rest of the United Kingdom. If you are interested in qualifying as a social worker in the United Kingdom, please see our 2-year postgraduate Social Work MSc or 4-year undergraduate Social Work BA (Hons).
