Pre-Master's - Design

In this course, you will be provided with a specialist support from experienced tutors and academically challenging environment in which to develop language, university study, and subject-specific modules related to your intended degree choices in the field of Design.

Overview

The Pre-Masters is designed for students who do not qualify for direct entry to a postgraduate degree at the University of Dundee. This could be because of the grades achieved in your undergraduate degree; your current qualifications are not equivalent to a UK undergraduate degree or if you want to improve your academic and English language skills.

The Pre-Masters course will equip you with the advanced skills you need to complete your postgraduate study at the University of Dundee. You will study over one term, this is a fast track route to your chosen degree course and is studied over three months.

English Language Requirements

One term 6.0 overall with 5.5. minimum in all components 6.0 in writing
Two terms 5.5 overall with 5.5. minimum in all components 6.0 in writing
One term +6 week Pre-Sessional English IELTS 5.5 with no less than 5.0 in each component, except writing which must be 5.5
Two terms +6 week Pre-Sessional English IELTS 5.0 with no less than 4.5 in each component
Two terms +12 week Pre-Sessional English IELTS 4.5 with no less than 4.0 in each component

English for Masters Preparation

These modules support students as they prepare for their postgraduate studies, extending and developing existing language and academic study skills.

Postgraduate Study in the UK: Literature Search and Annotated Bibliography

The aim of the module is to develop knowledge and understanding of how to conduct an informed literature search, and how to produce a concise description and succinct analysis of literature relevant to professional practice and / or advanced academic study in Design.

Design

The aim of this module is to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of designing a solution to a real world problem. Students will be encouraged to further develop their creative practice by adopting a thinking through making approach and enhance their ability to communicate project outcomes in a professional manner to new audiences.
