Pre-Master's - Education

The PM in Education at ICD offers you direct entry to a postgraduate degree at the University of Dundee.

Overview

The Pre-Master’s in Education is designed for students who do not qualify for direct entry to a postgraduate degree at the University of Dundee.

There are one and two-term options available to prospect students. Both options include Education specific modules helping you to further prepare for your chosen University of Dundee Master’s
programme.

You can study the IIM in Education over one or two terms depending on your academic qualifications and English language level.

English Language Requirements

One term +6 week Pre-Sessional English IELTS 5.5 with no less than 5.0 in each component, except writing which must be 5.5
Two terms +6 week Pre-Sessional English IELTS 5.0 with no less than 4.5 in each component
Two terms +12 week Pre-Sessional English IELTS 4.5 with no less than 4.0 in each component

Core Modules

English for Master's Preparation 2 (One Term)

These modules support students as they prepare for their postgraduate studies, extending and developing existing language and academic study skills.

Data Analysis (One Term)

This module provides the appropriate foundation in statistical knowledge and skills to enable students to be successful in the future studies at master’s level. The module offers a grounding in statistics with an emphasis on practical applications and extensive use of statistical packages.

Introduction to Research Methods (One Term)

The aim of the module is to introduce students to social research methods of direct relevance to their professional practice or further academic study in Psychology and familiarise them with standard research terminology. The module will cover qualitative, quantitative and evidence-based approaches to research.

Postgraduate Study in the UK: Literature Search and Annotated Bibliography (One Term)

The aim of the module is to develop knowledge and understanding of how to conduct an informed literature search, and how to produce concise description and succinct analysis of literature relevant to professional practice and / or advanced academic study in Psychology.

English for Master's Preparation 1 (Two Terms)

These modules support students as they prepare for their postgraduate studies, extending and developing existing language and academic study skills.

Writing Speaking and Communication Skills for Professionals (Two Terms)

The primary aim of the module is to introduce and develop communication and interpersonal skills directly relevant to the postgraduate students both while they are at University and as professionals in an international workplace.

Postgraduate Study in the UK (Two Terms)

Students engage in gathering and evaluating information from a wide range of written sources, including academic and professional journals and other publications. They also make extensive use of the Internet, whist developing their written, oral and visual communication skills and engaging in teambuilding and group activities.

Introduction to Scottish Culture (Two Terms)

The aim of this module is to help students gain a situated understanding of both the local and the wider environment in which they will living and studying and thereby provide both social and professional context for their studies. Students will be introduced to key themes in Scottish history, literature and language and explore concepts of nationhood and identity.
