Pre-Master's - Energy & Sustainability

In this course, you will be provided with a specialist support from experienced tutors and academically challenging environment in which to develop language, university study, and subject-specific modules related to your intended degree choices in the field of Energy & Sustainability.

Overview

The Pre-Masters is designed for students who do not qualify for direct entry to a postgraduate degree at the University of Dundee. This could be because of the grades achieved in your undergraduate degree; your current qualifications are not equivalent to a UK undergraduate degree or if you want to improve your academic and English language skills.

The Pre-Masters course will equip you with the advanced skills you need to complete your postgraduate study at the University of Dundee. You can study over one or two terms depending on your academic qualifications and English language level. The one-term offers you a fast track route to your chosen degree course and is studied over three months. The two-term is studied over six months and provides additional academic English and subject-related support.

Subject Specific Modules

Business Environment

This module considers key elements of both micro- and macro-economics and relates them to the experiences of entrepreneurs and their businesses. The rationale for, nature of and impact of the economic policies of national governments and wider economic groupings such as the European Union are examined.

Management in Context

The main aim of this module is to develop a greater understanding of some of the key activities and functions associated with establishing and managing a business. The main topics studied include the different types of business structure, their ownership models and legal bases and the significance of sustainability and an ethical approach; Organisational Behaviour; including the psychological contract and organisational culture; Management theories and styles; Leadership within business; an introduction to Operations Management including operations strategy performance objectives setting and quality management.

Finance, Investment and Banking

Taught over two terms, this module develops awareness of the legal and ethical frameworks within which business operates. It considers both the history of workplace regulation and then more recent adoption of ethical stances on the impact of business activities on society and the environment.
